Costa Rica Stuns Uruguay

Fortaleza, Brazil - Despite taking an early lead, Uruguay and soccer fans worldwide were shocked yesterday, as Costa Rica pulled off a 3-1 win in a match many believed they could not win.

In the early minutes of the match, things were not looking up for Costa Rica.  Even without striker Luis Suarez, the Uruguayans brought heavy pressure.

Costa Rica suffered a seemingly huge blow in the 24th minute of the match, when Uruguay was awarded a penalty kick.  The kick was taken, and placed perfectly by Paris Saint Germaine forward, Edinson Cavani.

With a scoreline of 1-0 so early in the match, it seemed that the analysts would be proved correct, and Uruguay would win.  However, the Costa Rican team had other ideas.

After halftime, Costa Rica truly began to shine.  Los Ticos were able to pull back one goal in the 54th minute.

A fantastic hit from 21 year old Joel Campbell gave the Costa Ricans the equalizer.  It seemed that they would be happy with a draw, but this simply was not true.

Only moments later Costa Rica took the lead in the 57th minute.  The second quick goal was especially shocking, and gave Costa Rica a huge confidence boost.

However, they were still not finished.  Costa Rica scored again in the closing minutes of the match with an 84th minute goal by Marco Ureña.

Ureña's goal came after an incredible pass by Campbell to help his team expand their lead.

With a final scoreline of 3-1, Costa Rica stunned the world.  The 7th ranked team in the nation was truly dismantled by the Costa Ricans.

Costa Rica's win also gives the team a huge boost heading into their next match.  Their next match will be against Italy on June 20, while Uruguay will take on England also on June 19.
