Cameroon Concludes World Cup Tune-Ups with Win Over Moldova

Edgar Salli found the back of the net for Cameroon, leading them to victory in Samuel Eto'o's absence
Cameroon got a 30th minute tally from Edgar Salli and never looked back as they easily took care of Moldova to go into the World Cup on a positive note.

Cameroon had an impressive 4 matches leading up to the World Cup including two victories and a 2-2 draw against Germany in four matches. Their only loss came against Paraguay. However, two consecutive impressive performances could give them the confidence they need headed to Brazil.

The four-time African champions thoroughly outplayed Moldova and in fact probably should have netted more goals. However, this must still be considered a very positive sign as captain and star striker Samuel Eto’o did not play in this match. To be able to win so handily even without their best player should be a confidence boost for a team that is considered to be the underdog in Group A.

If Cameroon is able to keep their momentum going they have a chance to surprise some people. They will open against a slumping Mexico team before facing Croatia and Brazil.

In terms of matchups, Brazilian defender Thiago Silva has singled out Eto’o as the striker who worries him the most. If Eto’o’s fitness is up to par, look for Cameroon to play competitive soccer and pull an upset victory somewhere down the road.
