Two Late Goals Break Mexican Hearts

Mexico took a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute on a goal from Giovani dos Santos after dominating much of the first half, following the departure of Dutch defenseman Nigel de Jong. 40 minutes later, with the Dutch in desperation mode, Wesley Sneijder equalized off a Klaas jan Huntelaar header. 6 minutes later Arjen Robben drew a foul in the box for a penalty kick, which Huntelaar powered home to give the Netherlands a 2-1 victory.

Brazil Survives Penalty Kicks to Advance Past Chile

Brazil will advance to the next round thanks in big part to a post and a crossbar. As time was ticking down at the end of extra time Mauricio Pinilla launched a shot that beat Julio Cesar but smacked into the crossbar and away. Then in penalty kicks, after Neymar had put Brazil ahead 3-2, Gonzalo Jara's shot bounced off the inside of the post and out of bounds to seal the win.

Uruguay Eliminate Italy Despite Suarez Disgrace


Natal, Brazil - In the midst of yet another shocking action by Uruguay striker, Luis Suarez, Italy has been eliminated to the surprise of many.  Suarez, who has a history of causing problems on the pitch has now been accused of a third biting incident.

Neymar leads Brazil to top spot in Group A

Brasilia, BRAZIL- Brazilian superstar Neymar added two more goals to lead the hosts past Cameroon 4-1 and into the Round of 16. Neymar now has four goals in three career World Cup matches. Brazil also got goals from a newly mustachioed Fred and sub Fernandinho. Cameroon's tally came off the foot of Joel Matip.

Recife, BRAZIL-Mexico broke through a scoreless match for three goals in the last 20 minutes to defeat Croatia 3-1 and advance to the Round of 16. Mexico got off to a somewhat slow start but late in the first half they seemed to wake up and put consistent pressure on the Croatian defense. In the end the Mexican offense was simply too persistent for Croatia.

Germany, Ghana Play to Physical 2-2 Draw

FORTALEZA, Brazil - Miroslav Klose equaled Ronaldo's all-time World Cup goals records to save Germany a 2-2 draw against Ghana Saturday. The 71st minute equalizer helped Germany avoid a loss against a physical Ghana squad and keeps them atop group G.

England Eliminated After Second Straight Win by Costa Rica

Croatia Eliminates Shorthanded Cameroon

MANAUS, Brazil - Croatia handed Cameroon its second loss and guaranteed them an early flight home as Croatia cruised to a 4-0 victory Wednesday. Cameroon was without star forward Samuel Eto'o due to injury and lost Alex Song to a red card in the 40th minute. Croatia got one goal in the first half and three in the second in the victory.

Sturridge, Welbeck Excited For England Match vs. Uruguay

England will face Uruguay June 19th in Sao Paulo for both team's second game in Group D and each squad will be searching for three points. England fell to Italy 2-1 and Uruguay was shocked by CONCACAF members Costa Rica.

Avenged Americans Beat Ghana 2-1

NATAL, Brazil - John Brooks headed in the game-winning goal in the 86th minute to give the United States the 2-1 victory in its first game of the 2014 World Cup, Monday night in Natal. The last time the U.S. faced Ghana in 2010, John Brooks was an after-thought of being a member of the National Team squad playing youth soccer in Berlin, but after his game-winning header, he's larger than life.

Germany Dominates, Outpowers Portugal 4-0

SALVADOR, Brazil - Thomas Mueller scored three times as Germany dominated Portugal 4-0 to open group play on the right foot Monday.

The Germans struck early in the 12th minute on a Mueller penalty kick and a Mats Hummels header in the 32nd, then the collapse of the Portuguese commenced.

Two Quick Goals Lift Ivory Coast Over Japan


Recife, Brazil - After giving up a goal early in the first half, the Ivory Coast managed to score two goals in quick succession to win the match.

Manaus, Brazil - In his first World Cup match ever,  Italian superstar Mario Balotelli truly showed just how good he really is.  Balotelli's performance gave his Italian team the much needed victory over the Three Lions on Saturday.

Natal, Brazil - Giovani dos Santos had two goals disallowed for offsides in the first half of today's Group A match between Mexico and Cameroon. In the second half Oribe Peralta netted the winner off the rebound of a dos Santos miss to lead Mexico to an important three points by a score of 1-0.

Villa's Double Lifts Spain over El Salvador


Two second half goals by the all time leading scorer in Spanish national team history, David Villa, lifted La Roja over El Salvador at FedEx field Saturday afternoon in Landover, Maryland.  Villa, who was recently signed by New York City FC as their first player in team history, came on as a substitute in the second half, and tallied a double to send Spain off to the World Cup in Brazil on a high note.

Foxborough, MA - In their final World Cup tune-up Mexico dropped it’s second consecutive game, a 1-0 match against Ronaldo-less Portugal. The match seemed to be ticketed for a draw until Bruno Alves netted the winner in injury time of the second half.
