Balotelli Proves Himself with Game Winner

Manaus, Brazil - In his first World Cup match ever,  Italian superstar Mario Balotelli truly showed just how good he really is.  Balotelli's performance gave his Italian team the much needed victory over the Three Lions on Saturday.

In what was debatably the most important match in Group D, Italy managed to edge a 2-1 victory over England.  Despite multiple efforts from England, they were unable to find the much needed equalizer.

Even after Italy's first goal in the 35th minute, it seemed that England would at least be able to get one point from the match.  The Three Lions were able to equalize only moments after in the 37th minute.

The equalizer scored by Daniel Sturridge kept England fans hopeful of at least a draw, and possibly a win.  However, Italy's Balotelli had other ideas.

Shortly after halftime Balotelli proved that all the hype about him was true.  He scored a perfectly placed header to beat England keeper Joe Hart and give  his side the 2-1 lead.

England were unable to recover from Balotelli's fantastic finish, and Italy came away from the match with three points.

Even with losing their first match, England will remain hopeful to make it to the knock out stage after a great result by Costa Rica.  Costa Rica's win over Uruguay was very helpful for the Three Lions.

If England are able to win their remaining two matches, they are still in contention to make it to the knockout stage.

Italy will also surely be happy with Costa Rica's win, as they now hope to finish first in Group D.

Italy will play their next match on June 20 against Costa Rica, while England will take on Uruguay on June 19.
