Champions League Quarter-final Preview

After Friday's Champions League Quarter-finals cup draw, all the matches are bound to be very exciting!  As with most stages of the competition, the match-ups were selected by random draw, and are sure to be some entertaining.  With only eight teams left across Europe, the intensity will surely be high as all the teams strive to reach the Semi-finals.  Below are some match predictions for both legs of the match-ups.

 Bayern Munich vs. Manchester United

The first quarter-final between Bayern Munich and Manchester United will likely be a high scoring affair.  Though Man U has been showing good form in the European competition, the defending Champions of Europe will likely edge the English side.  Bayern has a very deep lineup and has many options to play against the Red Devils.  The injury to Robin van Persie will also cause multiple problems for United.  Van Persie was solely responsible for the advancement of his team to the quarter-final is out for four to six weeks with a sprained knee.  This loss to the Red Devils will surely cause issues.  Bayern will likely dominate Manchester in both matches, but will be especially dominant at the Allianz Arena.  Most likely the match results will be somewhat similar to Bayern's match against Arsenal.

Prediction:  Bayern Munich win 5-2 on Aggregate

Barcelona vs. Atletico Madrid

The other match schedule for April first is a La Liga showdown between Atletico and Barcelona. This will surely be a thriller with two sides currently separated by only one point in the La Liga table.  The last time the two sides met in league play was in January, and resulted in a 0-0 draw.  The match will likely be a showdown between two top ranked strikers, Diego Costa and Lionel Messi.  Though the match will be very entertaining and exciting, it will likely not produce many goals.  With both teams so close in ability either could qualify for the semi-final.

Prediction:  Barcelona win 3-2 on Aggregate

PSG vs. Chelsea

April second will be the first leg of the match-up between the current league leaders in both France and England.  With teams having had very different results in the Round of 16, it will be very interesting to see how they respond looking forward to the quarter-final.  PSG easily defeated Bayer Leverkusen, while Chelsea had some struggles against Galatasaray.  Despite Chelsea having several stars such as Eden Hazard and Fernando Torres, it will not be an easy match against Zlatan Ibrahimovic and company.  It is highly likely that Ibra will score at least one goal between the two legs, but could very easily score more.  Ibrahimovic also has the strong support of Edinson Cavani and Argentine Ezequiel Lavezzi.  All will surely play into the result of the match, and while PSG will not easily cruise through like they did against Leverkusen, they have a strong chance of making the semi-finals.

Prediction:  PSG win 4-3 on Aggregate

Real Madrid vs. Borussia Dortmund

Another match that will surely be a bitter showdown is the match-up between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.  Real Madrid defeated FC Schalke with very little opposition, and are now matched up with another German side.  However, Dortmund will not be as easy of a match as their matches against Schalke.  Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski is always a dangerous threat and will have a considerable amount of support from his team as they face the Spanish giants.  The German side made it to last year's Champions League final against their rivals Bayern Munich, and will surely hope to repeat this accomplishment.  However, Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo will surely cause problems.  Though either side could make it to the semi-finals, the recent form of Real Madrid slightly tips the scales in their favor.

Prediction:  Real Madrid win 3-1 on Aggregate
