EPL Title Race Takes an Interesting Twist

The EPL title race has taken somewhat of an interesting change after this weekend's match results.  Former league leaders Chelsea have fallen to second place after losing 1-0 to Crystal Palace on Saturday.  The Blues lost following an own goal from veteran defender John Terry.  This somewhat hurt the London side's title chances as Liverpool and Manchester City both had positive results with the Reds winning 4-0 over Tottenham, and City getting one point in a 1-1 draw with Arsenal.
Following Saturday's match Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, said  that he believes his side is out of the running for the title, because they rely too much on other teams' results after this weekend's loss.  With this weekend's results, both Liverpool and Manchester City are now in a heated race for the title. City currently have two games in hand and a four goal advantage in goal differential, despite being four points behind current league leaders Liverpool.  The Reds have been in fantastic form, having won their last eight Premier League matches.  Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge have been the spark in Liverpool's form with the two strikers combining for 49 goals in Premier League play.  Suarez is in pursuit of the Premier League record for goals in a season, which is 31 goals for the 38 game season.  Suarez is currently only two goals away from this record, and could possibly break the total record for games in a season which is 34 goals and was last achieved by Alan Shearer in the 1994-1995 campaign when the season was 42 games.

The title race will continue to remain very heated as Liverpool host both Chelsea and Manchester City at Anfield in the final six weeks of the season.  Liverpool have only lost one match at Anfield all season, and both Suarez and Sturridge are known for scoring at their home field.  Home form will surely play to the Reds strengths as they prepare to face the other two top teams in the league as of right now.  However, despite the three teams all being in a heated title race, all three teams have essentially guaranteed their spot in next year's Champions League.
