Messi or Ronaldo? The debate continues

With two records broken by the two most renowned strikers in the world, who is truly the best?  Both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo broke records in matches this weekend.  Messi broke the record for most goals scored by a Barcelona man, while Ronaldo is now the first player to score 25 goals in five consecutive seasons in La Liga.
Both Messi and Ronaldo are known as two of the world's best players, and their names are even thrown around in the debate about best players ever.  This weekend the competition between the two has become even more intense.  The two men have been the FIFA Ballon d'Or finalists for several years now, but Messi has defeated the Portuguese international three times.  However, the 2013 award went to Ronaldo, leaving the Argentine in second place.

Ronaldo is now the only player to have scored 25 goals in five consecutive league games in Spain's top league.  This record was set after a 1-0 win for Los Blancos against Malaga.  The goal came after a good delivery from summer transfer Gareth Bale and some fancy footwork by Ronaldo to beat the defenders as well as the keeper.  This was Ronaldo's 25th this season but will surely not be his last.  The Portuguese man has scored 240 goals in 235 games for Real Madrid, and will surely keep producing goals for the Spanish side.

Lionel Messi scored a hat trick in Sunday's match at Camp Nou.  This put the Argentine as the all-time leading scorer for his club.  Though he took 95 more games than the previous record holder, Messi now holds the record with 371 goals for the Catalan side.  The record Messi broke stood for 87 years, but has now been broken by the twenty-six year old.  Messi is sure to not only hold this record, but will also likely hold it by a good margin by the end of his career.

With Spain's two top stars both in amazing form, the debate rolls on.  Who is the best player in La Liga?  Though people constantly argue, only time will tell who is superior.  However, it is undeniable that both players will go down in the history books alongside players such as Pele and Diego Maradona.
