Champions League Final Preview

After a grueling Champions League campaign, the finals are now set.  For the first time in tournament history, the two teams featured in Lisbon will be from the same city.  Real Madrid will take on cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid as both teams strive to be crowned Champions of Europe.

This year's Champions League final is sure to be one of the most interesting in the history of the competition.  With both teams being from the same city, the rivalry will be even more heated than most Champions League matches.

With both teams being in La Liga, they have already faced each other twice in league play alone.  In the two matches Atletico remains unbeaten.  Despite an overall record between the two clubs of 143-64-57 (W-L-D) in favor of Real Madrid, Los Blancos have been unable to record more than a draw this season.

The first league meeting between the two sides finished in favor of Atletico with a scoreline of 1-0.  The second result was a 2-2 draw at Atletico's home stadium, the Vicente Calderon.

As both teams head to Lisbon for the Champions League Final, it will be hard to predict a winner.  The May 24 meeting between the two teams will be a fantastic battle.

The result of the match will be determined by the strategies the two side's managers choose.  Both teams are usually somewhat rely on the counterattack, but this strategy will most likely have to be altered for the Final.

Form of the strikers from both teams will also have a great effect on the match.  With Cristiano Ronaldo and Diego Costa among the top scoring strikers in La Liga, a top defensive performance will be necessary from both sides.

The team with the most effective defense will be very likely to win the match.  The battle at keeper will also be key to project a winning team forward.

Atletico keeper Thibaut Courtois, who is on loan from Chelsea, provides an exciting spark to the Atletico team.  At almost 22 years he is amongst the top prospects at keeper, and will surely effect the Champions League Final.

With both teams striving for the Championship Title, the May 24th match will surely be exciting and eventful.
